Arthur “Art” Frances Kries, 79, of Joliet, Illinois passed away peacefully on April 18, 2022, surrounded by his loving wife and three daughters. Art grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and taught at Valley View School District 365u for over 35 years. He also enjoyed coaching his daughters’ sports teams throughout their youth. He was a loving grandfather and an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. He was a loyal man who loved his friends and family fiercely, and was known to offer up numerous jokes and riddles. Since his diagnosis, he was determined to beat his fight with Lewy Body Dementia and leave this earth on his terms. He will be dearly missed and always remembered.
Art was preceded in death by his father, Arthur J. Kries and mother, Julia Kries; and his dear sister, Mary.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Karen (Peterson) Kries; daughters, Jennifer (Kevin) Herrmann, Kimberly Kries, and Larissa Kries; grandchildren, Austin, Mason, and Ashlyn Herrmann; brother, Frank (Carol) Kries; nieces and nephews, Debbie Tokarski, Linda (Larry) Swingler, Roberta (Scott) Kluck, Tammy Tokarski, Dale (Denise) Tokarski, Gary (Carol) Tokarski, and Marty (Kim) Tokarski; as well as many more family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Lightways Hospice who helped the family tremendously during this difficult time.
A celebration of Art's life will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 600 Brook Forest Avenue, Shorewood, IL 60404 with a Mass of Christian Burial to held at 10:00 a.m. Immediately following mass, the family will be hosting an open house. Details will be shared at the service.
