Gerald Lee Scheidt

Gerald “Jerry” Scheidt Sr, age 68, of Joliet, IL. Passed into heavenly eternity after a courageous battle of Cancer on Saturday, November 6, 2021 with his loving family by his side.

He was born to Charles and Rose Scheidt of Joliet, IL On April, 10th 1953. Gerald was a proud United States Marine from 1972-1979.

He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Scheidt; brothers, Chuck, Michael and Richard Scheidt; and his grandson, Joseph R.D Conway.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Patricia “Lee” Scheidt. Anyone that knew them knew they were soul mates and shared so much love together.  He also leaves behind his mother, Rose Scheidt; four children; Gerald (Melissa)Scheidt, April (Josh)Kubinski, Tanya (Glenn) Gurnitz and Misty (Shane) Mitchell.  He was the proud grandpa of 14 grandchildren, Krystal, Morgan, Jake, Zach, Madison, Joshua, Jayson (Taylor), Austin, Brandon, Jaidyn, Ashly, Dymond, Bronson Jr. and Destinee; 4 great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Brent Jr, Graclyn and Kashton.

He is also survived by his loving siblings, Russell (Janene) Scheidt, Mark Scheidt and Timothy (Maribel) Scheidt; three lifetime friends, Don (Pat) Nolan, David Cryer and Dan Keith; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Gerald loved his family more than anything. He radiated happiness, kindness, joy, love, care, and support to not only his family and friends but to every human he crossed paths with. He loved fishing and was persistent until the day he could no longer.

Gerald spent his career as a drug and alcohol counselor helping others with their addictions. Everyday he prayed for others he did not know and this was his prayer “God please look after the alcoholics and addicts still suffering. Give them the willingness, kindness, strength and the hope you have given me. To keep me clean and sober. Amen”

The family would like to offer a special thank you to, Sharon Zbacnik and OSF Hospice for the comfort and care provided to Gerald.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the family would be appreciated.

A celebration of Gerald’s life will begin on Friday, November 12, 2021 with a memorial visitation at Parkview Christian Church, 2121 S Schoolhouse Rd, New Lenox, IL from 11:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service to be held at 12:00 noon. Interment of cremated remains will follow at Elmhurst Cemetery in Joliet.
